MAYOR Isko Moreno yesterday appealed for the public to help him and the city government finally get rid of the old, disgusting practice of taking advantage of less-privileged citizens of Manila by informing him at once should they encounter anything that involves ‘Patty’and ‘Éddie.’
In a speech delivered during the distribution of financial assistance to public school students and families who need capital to start up a small business of their own, the mayor expressed disappointment at discovering one anomaly after another in the course of his rein, specially if the ones being victimized are the less-forunate.
‘Sikat na sikat sina Eddie at Patty sa Maynila. Kahit saang sulok, kahit anong sector, unti-unti kong nabubuksan ýung mga lumang baul…lahat ng baul na buksan ko, meron lagi para kay Patty meron lagi para kay Eddie,’ an irate Moreno told the parents and students present.
Moreno’s reaction stemmed from a report from Manila social welfare department chief Re Fugoso which said that some unscrupulous individuals approach the beneficiaries of city government financial assistance, saying they will help or have helped include their names in the DSW list of those who will receive financial help from the city government. In exchange for the non-existent help, Fugoso reported, the racketeers would demand from the recipient concerned that they split whatever amount they will be getting from the city.
The mayor said he and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna have been doing everything humanly possible to protect the city funds and the citizens of Manila and the least that the citizens can do is report irregular activities.
‘Lahat ng financial assistance na ito ay para sa inyo. Pera ito ng taumbayan na ibinabalik lamang sa inyo through services. Iniingatan ko parati ang pananalapi ng taumbayan para maibalik ang puri sa mamamayan. Tulungan ninyo ako na patuloy kayong proteskyunan dahil pinipilit kong maging masinop,’Moreno said.
‘Walang picture-picture. Malalaman ko yan dáhil tsismoso ako. Sumbong nyo sa akin’,’the mayor added.
The mayor went on to clarify that in all instances of financial assistance distribution, the lists are always made based on verification and counter-verification of officials involved, so that only those who are truly deserving and qualified become recipients.
‘Yung mga nagsasabi na isasama kayo sa listahan tapos hihingi ng parte huwag kayong maniniwala. Hindi totoo ‘yun. Isumbong ninyo sa amin at agad naming ipahuhuli ang mga ýan. Ýung mga ganyang sistema nung nakaraaang administrasyon, hindi na pupuwede ngayon,’ he stressed.
