AFTER the drive-thrus and walk-ins, Mayor Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna took the city government's free COVID testing using serology up a notch higher by bringing it to the barangays.
Yesterday, Moreno and Lacuna launched the new mobile serology testing in two barangays where high incidences of COVID-19 have been reported to them.
The launch of the Mobile Serology Testing was done at Bgy. 97, under chairman Guillermo Saldana on Nepomuceno Street in Velasquez, Tondo District 1 and Bgy. 836 headed by Paulino Soberano in Peter Paul Pandacan (former Petron Oil Depot) in the sixth district.
There, random testing was done on 100 individuals starting with direct contacts of COVID positive individuals.
The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) headed by Arnel Angeles put up tents to serve as testing facilities in order to protect the residents from the heat or rains.
Moreno said the mobile clinic will go around the city to provide free COVID serology testing, virtually bringing the said free service right at the doorsteps of Manilans.
This development came amid a surge in community transmissions brought about by the easing up of the community quarantine and the fact that the people have become lax.
Moreno vowed that the city government will not stop finding ways to stem the spread of COVID-19 and in turn, asked for the residents to practice self-discipline by practicing all the health protocols like wearing of face masks, frequent hand washing and proper distancing.
The mayor stressed that being careless will not only expose one to the danger of getting infected but will also pose danger to the members of the household, specially the children or senior citizens who belong to the high-risk age groups.
Moreno also reminded the residents that even health-looking individuals may be virus carriers that fall under the category of ‘asymptomatic’ carriers or those who have the virus but do not manifest any symptom at all.
Serology tests are not rapid tests as they are more accurate and reliable. Blood samples are taken and then analyzed using Architect i1000 SR machines that offer 99.6 percent specificity and 100 percent sensitivity.
Of late, Moreno announced the purchase of Architect i2000 which has a double load capacity. The same kind of machines are the same ones used for the two drive-thru and two walk-in centers recently launched by Moreno and Lacuna for Manilans and even non-Manilans.
