MAYOR Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna yesterday led the 'National Flag Day' celebration in Manila with the unfurling of a new Philippine Flag at the Kartilya ng Katipunan located at the Bonifacio Shrine and in seven major bridges in the city.

Also yesterday, Moreno and Lacuna opened yet another quarantine facility at the Arellano High School in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

It is the fifth quarantine faciltiy to be opened by Moreno in anticipation of a possible surge in the number of COVID-19 cases as the city transitions from modified enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine come June 1.

The Arellano quarantine facility has a 40-bed capacity and is now ready for operations.   Moreno said he targets to have a total of at least 400 to 500 beds in the city's quarantine facilities once all the quarantine facilities are done.

It was learned that the establishment of several more similar facilities are underway.

So far, Moreno had opened quarantine facilities at the Del Pan Evacuation Center, Araullo High School, Tondo High School and at the San Andres Complex, in addition to the one at the Rizal Coliseum which is being run by the national government.

The quarantine facilities, he said, are important in that they are where persons under investigation (PUIs) or those suspected to be infected with the coronavirus will have to be confined pending the outcome of a confirmatory test done on them, after they have tested positive in the initial rapid test.

If they again turn positive after being subjected to swabbing, they will then be turned over to the Manila Infectious Disease Control Center (MIDCC) at the Sta. Ana Hospital where they will be treated until they finally recover.

Meanwhile, Moreno and Lacuna appealed to the residents’sense of nationalism by cooperating with the government, both national and local, specially when it comes to policies being implemented relative to the coronavirus.
