Isko orders arrest of 2 Nigerians for ‘mask scam’

FOR engaging in swindling activities online in the guise of selling face masks, two Nigerian nationals were ordered arrested by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

In his report to Moreno, special mayor’s reaction team (SMART) chief Maj. Jhun Ibay identified the two as Iringe Koko alias ‘DagogoJulius’ and ‘Julius Roro’, 23, billeted at Tower A Unit 8I Escalades, South Metro Condominium located in Sucat, Muntinlupa, City and Kachia Chia Aondo Wase, 26, a student of St. Dominique College in Bacoor, Cavite and residing at Panapaan 11, Bacoor, Cavite.

Moreno said that a complainant sought his help after having been scammed by the two foreigners who were engaging in purported selling of surgical face masks online.

After getting their victims’ money, the duo would not deliver any and then lose contact with their victims.

According to Ibay, the suspects were able to swindle in the amount of P975,000 and were arrested on the complaint of Audrey Cassandra Ong, a 19-year-old student and businesswoman residing in Ermita, Manila.

During their arrest at Koko’s residence on March 10 by operatives led by Ibay himself and  P/Maj. Raul Salle, the two Nigerians were also found in possession of 21 pieces of small, self- sealed plastic containing dried marijuana leaves, ten sticks of marijuana, a green Ecobag with marijuana stems worth P22,000, a BDO Debit Card issued to one Sheena Surima and  an Alien Certification of Registration Card issued to Koko.

Moreno is urging those who may have also been victimized by the two foreigners to come forward and lodge formal complaints against them.

He lamented that the two, foreigners at that,  were taking advantage of the present situation regarding coronavirus to swindle Filipinos.
