MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno, as chief executive of the country’s capital, rallied full support and prayers for President Rodrigo Duterte during this time of worldwide crisis, as he wished the Chief Executive continued good health as well as strength of body and mind to face the current problems besetting the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic on the latter’s 75th birthday.
Moreno, who is not a partymate of the President, has called on all local government units in the country to join him in throwing full support and cooperation to the national government’s direction in handling the coronavirus crisis, citing the importance of acting and responding in unison and setting politics aside at least in the meantime.
On behalf of his family and the people of Manila, Moreno said: ‘Mr. President… happy birthday. Ngayong kaarawan ninyo, nasa krisis tayo, ang tanging mabibigay nalang namin sa inyo ay maisama namin kayo sa dasal na sana ay bigyan kayo ng Diyos ng malusog na pangangatawan at kakayanan at katatagan sa kinakaharap ng ating bansa. We wish you all the best and thank you for being there sampu ng inyong mga kasamahan sa national government. I cannot imagine how hard it is for you nowadays handling 7,100 islands in the country.’”
Moreno added: “Alam kong mahirap ang kinakaharap n’yo but I know for a fact that one way or another, God gave you that position… the guy from the south.. a mayor of 1,630 plus municipalities and cities became the president. So there must be a reason for you Mr. President to be there and another gift bukod sa kayo’y ipinanalangin namin na maging malusog matatag at bigyan ng lawak ng kaisipan sa kinakaharap natin ay umasa kayo na. We will cooperate we will be part of how to ease ur burdein the national govt we will be wd u fighting this enemy of ours, this so-called COVID 19.”
“We assure you, Mr. President, that in our own little way, we will be there. Tutugon kami sa panawagan mo nung pinapanood kita calling the entire Filipino people about solidarity. Umasa kayo, di man tayo magkakapartido ay kaisa n’yo kami. Ýun ang regalo namn sa inyo. ‘Yung mapagaan namin ang inyong pag-iiisip, pag-aalala at pagmamalasakit n’yo sa ating mga kababayan,’ Moreno added.
Moreno further stated: ‘Sa aming mga kababayan sa lungsod ng Maynila, a simple thank you to the President. It’s really hard nowadays. I cannot imagine him (President) handling the situation of 1,600 muicipalities and cities. Tayo ho, isang siyudad pa lang hirap na hirap na tayo.
The mayor said it is only if and when LGUS are united and one in following the national government’s plan of actions, guidance and policies that the chances of licking the problem of COVID 19 can be better.
At least in Manila, Moreno assured that all the actions that the city government will take regarding the coronavirus situation will be based on the national government’s plans and policies.
