THE Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 11 sentenced to an imprisonment of  30 days  lady lawyer Atty.Lorna Kapunan after being found guilty of the unjust vexation charges filed against him by  UST Civil Law Dean Nilo Divina in 2017.

Divina accused  Kapunan of  obstruction of justice in connection with the hazing death of law student   Horacio Castillo III.

Manila RTC Judge Cicero Jurado, Jr. reversed an earlier decision of Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 17 Judge Karla Funtila-Abugan that dismissed the unjust vexation case of  Kapunan.

In reversing the decision of  Abugan last January 3, 202, Jurado also ordered Kapunan to pay P1 million in moral damages, P1 milllion in exemplary damages and P.5 million in attorney's fees.   

"Wherefore, foregoing premises considered, the assailed decision dated January 3, 2020 and ordered January 31,2020 by the Hon.Karla  A. Funtila- Abugan in Criminal case no.M-MNL-1812076-CR is nullified and set aside", the decision stated.

Divina filed a case against Kapunan owing to what he claimed were derogatory statements during the preliminary investigation of the Castillo hazing death case at the Department of Justice (DOJ).
