FORMER Makati Acting Mayor Kid Peña is confident that he will emerge victorious against his close competitor who eked out a narrow margin in an early voter’s preferential survey for the city’s first district representative.
Peña made the pronouncement, after completing his first round of house-to-house visitation in all of 20 barangays in District 1 Makati.
During the close interaction with residents, Peña discovered how his rival’s popularity has greatly dwindled. He said the majority of those he had spoken with assured him of their steadfast support come election day.
“Nakakataba po ng puso ang deklarasyon ng suporta nila pabor sa akin laban sa isang higanteng politiko sa lungsod. Anila, ang laban ngayon ay isang duplikasyon lamang noong 2016, kung saan napagwagian ko halos lahat ng barangay, kasama ang 6 na mayayamang komunidad, sa unang distrito ng lungsod,” said Peña. While he treats the early survey as motivational factor to work doubly hard to entice full support, the former mayor believes that adjustment is not necessary to reverse his imminent victory.
“Ako po’y naniniwala na ang mga kadistrito ko ay pipili base sa kakayahan, kalusugan at kahandaan ng nagnanais maglingkod sa bayan. Sa ganitong aspeto’y kita ng lahat kung sino ang higit na nakakalamang,” Peña said.
His fruitful but short-lived tenure as mayor has put Peña in the glossary of outstanding public servants in the country.
During that time, his administration opened the city hall to people from all walks of life, as he embarked on a transparent and good governance leadership.
Senior citizens then felt the optimum care they wish to experience after receiving the best branded cakes in the market during their birthdays and anniversaries. Aside from that, medicines and vitamins were delivered at their households by Kid Peña riders and accompanied by health workers to monitor their health condition. PWDs were also given jobs to accommodate all concerns of their sector.
Peña said that he would grant more services to his constituents which differ from what the Makati City Government offers, such as augmenting the 15-day free medicine. He is assuring his constituents that they will receive a one-month medicine allocation once he is in Congress. He will utilize the budget of the office for these purposes.
He also cited a few of his intended programs that include partnering with private foundations to grant full scholarship, bringing back Goldilocks cake for the senior citizens, empowering the youth, and new and more skills and livelihood trainings for mothers.
