AN alleged Korean chemist and his Filipino cohort were arrested for illegal possession of several gallons of chemicals which can produce P2.2 billion worth of illegal drugs and equipment used to manufacture shabu loaded in a van parked in Pasig City the other night.
A report gathered from Eastern Police District (EPD) said the suspects, Kim Jong Hee, Korean, and Marvin Yu, were arrested in a series of operations conducted by joint teams of EPD, San Juan police, Pasig police and Northern Police District (NPD).
Reports said the chemicals and other items were discovered from a Toyota Grandia (ZRF-504) owned by Kim parked at J3N3 parking lot on Garnet Road, Bgy. San Antonio, Ortigas Center, Pasig City at 9:30 p.m.
Prior to the discovery of the shabu chemicals, a Drug Enforcement Unit team from the NPD conducted a buy-bust operation in Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City and was able to strike a deal with Yu at 5 a.m.
Police recovered from Yu at least 250 grams of suspected shabu.
During interrogation, Yu pinpointed the Korean suspect who was staying at a hotel in San Juan City.
Police immediately conducted a follow-up operation and hatched a drug transaction against the Korean.
When the suspect handed the illegal drugs, the SDEU operatives nabbed him and recovered another 250 grams of suspected shabu at 6:30 p.m.
Police said the Korean was occupying a warehouse in San Juan City which allegedly served as his laboratory but he later transferred to another place upon learning that cops were conducting surveillance against him.
Police said they have been tailing Kim even before his arrest to trace the source of a reported huge volume of illegal drugs.
Subsequently, authorities recovered Kim’s Toyota Grandia in a parking lot in Pasig City.
Recovered from his vehicle were two containers and four water jugs of half-processed shabu, 26 sacks of suspected ephedrine, several glass mixers, gallons of chemicals believed to be precursors, several boxes of acetone and other items used for manufacturing shabu.
Police said these ingredients can produce around 325 kilos or P2.2 billion worth of the illegal drugs.
Yu and Kim are now in the custody of the police and will be facing drug charges.
