Laborer, 8-year-old boy slain for unknown reason

A CONSTRUCTION worker and an 8-year-old boy were killed yesterday before dawn after an unidentified gunman shot them as they slept on the covered court of a barangay in Caloocan City.

Caloocan Police Community Precinct (PCP) 3 commander Maj. Raymond Nicolas said Jaylord Cajuban, 23, of Phase 8A Package 14 Blk 71, sustained a single bullet wound in the head while the boy identified as Jefferson Dimarillas, also of Phase 8, Bgy. 176 Bagong Silang, was hit in the abdomen. The two died on the spot.

Maj. Nicolas said the victims were sleeping at the covered court of Phase 8, Bgy. Bagong Silang when a still unidentified assailant shot them  around 3:30 a.m.

Police said Cajuban was drunk when he decided to sleep at the covered court while the boy’s grandfather told investigators that he was surprised when he learned that his grandson went out of their house and slept at the covered court.

Officers of PCP-3 who responded to the area recovered two empty shells for a still unknown caliber of firearm.

A follow-up operation is ongoing for the possible identification and arrest of the suspect.

Police said the motive behind the killing is yet to be determined.
