Las Piñas first in Trauma Informed Care training in NCR

September 28, 2018

THE City of Las Piñas is the first among the local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) to have conducted trainings for its frontline services workers in Trauma Informed Care, according to psychologists from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-NCR who facilitated the workshops.

The Las Piñas City Social Welfare and Development Office has initiated the trainings with the support of Mayor Imelda “Mel” Aguilar to organize and capacitate responders and personnel handling cases of trauma victims in the barangays, police and the LGU as part of its move to strengthen the Las Piñas Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC).

Junet Barilla, the Las Piñas City Social Welfare and Development Officer, pointed out that preparations through trainings and seminars for the frontliners in dealing with victims of mentally, physically and emotionally abused persons, particularly young adults and children, are basic steps to efficiently address trauma situations.

Mayor Aguilar has consistently pushed to capacitate personnel and social and health services workers for efficient response and cushion the impact of trauma, especially among the children in conflict with the law.

“Our frontliners and responders must have appropriate understanding and skills in dealing with those who are experiencing traumatic situations so that these concerns could be correctly addressed,” Mayor Aguilar said.
