THE City Government of Malabon vehemently condemned the killing of Bgy. Panghulo Kagawad Dante Sih, who was shot yesterday in broad daylight. “This heinous crime not only strikes doubt, fear, and anxiety in the hearts of our citizens, but also puts Malabon City in a negative light,” the city government said in a statement.
“We now call on the police to give swift justice to the family of the victim of this heinous crime by launching an impartial investigation and relentlessly pursuing all possible leads within the bounds of the law. All lawless elements and groups that use violence to strike fear in the hearts of the people of Malabon shall be dealt with accordingly.”
“We also call on all sides to refrain from using this incident to fuel political competition and to cast doubts and suspicion on the conduct of fair, free, and honest elections at this time of grief until the investigation is fully resolved,” the city government added.
Meanwhile, Malabon Vice Mayor and Team Kakampi mayoral candidate Jeannie Sandoval also condemned the killing.
Sandoval’s statement reads:
“I, together with the whole Team Kakampi, express our deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Barangay Councilman Dante Sih of Barangay Panghulo.
According to the eye witness report, Barangay Councilman Dante was happily exchanging banters with a vegetable vendor in Tatawid St., Bgy. Panghulo when a masked man riding a motorcycle stopped and shot Barangay Councilman Dante two times in the head.
We believe in the integrity of Barangay Councilman Dante as a barangay official. We believe in his genuine heart as an ordinary citizen of Malabon who only aspires for real change in the city. His death in the hands of hired killers only signifies that threat and violence reign in Malabon during election period.
Team Kakampi strongly condemns the killing of Barangay Councilman Dante.
We call on the fast response and unbiased investigation of the PNP, DILG, and Comelec of this tragic event where another public servant was killed mercilessly.
Let us not let the death of Barangay Councilman Dante come to pass without serving him and his bereaved justice. Let us not let the impending of justice that happened to the killing of Barangay Councilman Dante Villaluna (Bgy. Concepcion) and Barangay Councilman Bienvenido Reyes Jr. (Bgy. San Agustin) in 2016 happen again.
Vigilance is a way of protecting ourselves from politically motivated actions. Report to authorities any suspicious incident in your surroundings. May we all stay safe.”
