Man driving pedicab killed by wayward truck

A 53-YEAR-OLD man was killed when a delivery truck went wayward before hitting the victim's pedicab he was driving Monday afternoon in Navotas city.

Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas said Roberto Rodrigo of Blk 51 Lot 36 Phase 1-C Bgy. NBBS-Kaularan succumbed to severe head and body injuries while being rushed by an ambulance to Tondo Medical Center.

The truck driver, identified as Lenent Aldrint Dela Cruz, 22, of Tarundon, Bgy. San Jose, Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija surrendered to the responding policemen and was placed under the custody of Navotas police.

Investigation showed that at around 4:45 p.m., Rodrigo was driving his pedicab and traversing at the northbound lane of Road-10 in Bgy. NBBN when the truck travelling on the opposite lane, went wayward allegedly due to mechanical trouble and rammed into the gutter before occupying the opposite lane where it hit the pedicab.

Due to the strong impact, Rodrigo was thrown off a few meters from his pedicab and landed on the cemented pavement causing severe injuries in his head and body.

Col. Balasabas said both vehicles involved in the accident were brought to the Navotas City impounding area while Dela Cruz was presented for inquest proceedings to the City Prosecutor’s Office for charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to government and private properties.
