A RAPE suspect on the run for more than a year, and on the list of top 6 most wanted persons in Navotas City, was arrested by authorities when he tried to visit his house Friday evening.
Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas said Jaymart Gozon alias “Bench Evo” was arrested by elements of Intelligence Section led by P/ Lt. Charlie Bontigao at around 7 p.m. when he was spotted near his house at No. 3 Dr. Bausa St., Brgy. Bagumbayan South.
The accused did not resist when policemen served the warrant of arrest against him issued by Navotas Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Ronald Torrjos of Branch 288 for two counts of rape and for violation of R.A. 9262 or the Anti Violence Against Women and their Children Act issued by Judge Catherine Therese Tagle-Salvador of Malabon RTC Branch 73 .
Col. Balasabas said the two counts of rape was filed against Gozon after a 21-year-old woman from San Pedro, Laguna accused him of raping her twice on January 3, 2019 inside his house in Dr. Bausa Street, Brgy. Bagumbayan South.
When authorities failed to arrest Gozon after the victim filed a complaint before the office of Navotas Police Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD), the case was filed against him in court by Assistant City Prosecutor Gilbert Cruz, and Judge Torrijos issued an arrest warrant against him on May 6, 2019.
