A drinking spree turned bloody after a 34-year-old man shot and killed one of his neighbors who joined them in a drinking binge while another was wounded when hit by stray bullet Sunday evening in Caloocan city.

Iñigo Jayondato, 31, helper and resident of 1530 Masaya St. Bgy. 181 Pangarap Village succumbed to bullet wound in the chest while being rushed to Commonwealth Medical Center while Luis Moreno, 63 of 1020 Malaya St. Sapang Alat Road, Pangarap Village was brought to East Avenue Medical Center where he underwent surgical operation due to gunshot wound in the right knee.

Caloocan police chief P/Col. Dario Menor said elements of Caloocan Police Community Precinct (PCP) 4 and Bgy. 181 volunteers were able to arrest the suspect identified as Ferdinand Parulan of Malaya St. Brgy. 181 Pangarap Village in a follow-up operation.

Investigation showed that earlier at around 10 p.m., witness Maria Joycylin Moreno, 31 and her friend, a certain “Apol”, were having a drinking session inside the former’s house at 1020 Malaya St. when Parulan arrived and joined them.

A few minutes later, Jayondato and his friend, a certain “Max” arrived and also joined in the drinking spree which prompted Parulan, who was allegedly harboring old grudge against the victim, to leave the place.

Moments later, Parulan returned already armed with an unknown type of handgun and shot Jayondato but missed, prompting witness Moreno to intervene and tried to pacify the suspect.

However, the suspect, in a fit of anger, fired another shot towards the victim who managed to go out of the house but the bullet hit the right knee of Moreno who went out of his house to verify the commotion.

Parulan chased the fleeing victim and when cornered shot him once in the chest then fled.

Col. Menor said the arrested suspect was presented for inquest proceedings for charges of murder and frustrated homicide before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office.
