MAKATI Mayor Abby Binay today ordered the distribution of P2,000 financial assistance to almost 6,000 tricycle drivers living in Makati. The mayor said the initial amount is meant to help the drivers and their families get through the first two weeks of the enhanced community quarantine period.
"We empathize with the plight of our tricycle drivers who are now unable to earn for the daily subsistence of their own families due to the suspension of public transport operations nationwide. This initial cash relief is intended to help tide them over for the next two weeks," Mayor Abby said.
According to Makati City’s database, there are 5,942 duly registered tricycle drivers in the city.
Mayor Abby said the tricycle drivers will be informed of the mechanics of distribution shortly. For now, she assured Makatizensthat measures are in place to ensure assistance to residents hit hardest by the community quarantine.
The city will also be announcing financial assistance for jeepney drivers, she said.
“I continue to urge everyone to stay at home. Do not risk infection by going out on the streets. Please cooperate and allow us to do our job so we can all see an end to this crisis," Mayor Abby appealed.
