A NUMBER of police-community precinct commanders in Metro Manila are under fire for their failure to stop the illegal “video-karera and fruit game” machine operations in their areas which triggered a Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG)-led raids last week, the Journal Group learned yesterday.
The simultaneous one-time, big-time operations against the illegal gambling machines long associated with illegal drug use was conducted by the PNP-IMEG headed by Colonel Ronald O. Lee and the National Capital Region Police Office Regional Intelligence Division under Major General Debold M. Sinas.
The raids in Caloocan, Muntinlupa and Pasay cities led to the confiscation of 19 video-karera and 36 “fruit game” machines and P39,670 in P1 bets. Eight persons were arrested during the raids.
Lee said that in coordination with Sinas, they conducted the simultaneous raids following information from the PNP Directorate for Intelligence regarding the failure of some local police chiefs and station commanders in NCRPO to comply with Gen. Gamboa’s ‘no-take’ policy.
Appropriate administrative charges will be filed against officers who failed to address illegal gambling activities in their areas including operations of ‘VK’ and ‘fruit game’ machines which have long been associated with illegal drug use, officials said.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. last Friday, Lee said that PNP-IMEG operatives conducted a string of operations Vivo Compound in Barangay Bayanan-2; San Guillermo Bayanan-2; Net Kappa Bayana-2; Sitio Robal in Bgy. Forty-four VK machines were seized at the Kelly Compound in Alabang which is under PCP3.
Lee said that the overall operator of the confiscated illegal gambling machines was identified as one ‘Madam Nely.’
In Caloocan City, two ‘VK’ machines were seized in Phase 8, North Caloocan area which is under the jurisdiction of the Caloocan City PCP 3 and two ‘VK’ machines in Phase 1, North Caloocan which is under the jurisdiction of PCP5.
