Most wanted car thief cornered in Makati

AGENTS of the National Capital Region Field Unit of the Philippine National Police on Sunday arrested one of the country’s most wanted car thieves during a manhunt operation in Makati City, a report to PNP-CIDG director, Major General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel said.

CIDG-NCR chief, Colonel Arnold Thomas C. Ibay identified the suspect as Jimsy Abungan, a 40-year old resident of Kabalitan Street, Barangay Cruz na Ligas in Quezon City.

Ibay said that Abungan was arrested along Evangelista St. in Bgy. Bangkal, Makati City past 2 p.m. Sunday by members of the Southern CIDG with the help of the PNP Highway Patrol Group and the National Capital Region Police Office Regional Intelligence Division.

The suspect is the subject of a warrant of arrest for violation of Republic Act 6539  or the Anti-Carnapping Law issued by Judge Janet Abergos-Samar of the Q.C. Regional Trial Court Branch 219 on May 27, 2019 with a P300,000 recommended bail.

Ibay described the suspect as a member of the Sequisa Criminal Group involved in motor vehicle and motorcycle theft particularly in the southern part of Metro Manila.

The official also announced the arrest of three persons wanted for qualified theft and estafa on Sunday.

One of them identified as Alver Libres,27, was arrested in a fast-food chain in Commonwealth Avenue, Q.C. last  Sunday morning on the basis of a warrant of arrest for three counts of qualified theft issued by Judge Kirk Aniñon of the Pasay City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 44 with a P44,000 bail recommended.

The 2nd identified as Rechelle Balag,31, was arrested in Sikatuna Village, Q.C. on the strength of a warrant of arrest for estafa issued by Judge Filip Abelita of the Q.C. MTC Branch 132. A P54,000 bail was recommended for the liberty of the accused.

The 3rd identified as John Eric dela Cruz,44, a resident of BF Homes, Paranaque City was arrested inside the Southern Police District compound in Bgy. Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on the strength of a warrant of arrest for estafa issued on February 27, 2014 by Judge Noemi Balitaan of the Parañaque City RTC Branch 258 with a P40,000 recommended bail.

Ibay said that the accused is also the subject of another warrant for estafa issued by Judge Carlos Valenzuela of the Mandaluyong City RTC Branch 213 on May 21, 2013 with a recommended bail of P40,000.

The CIDG-NCR chief said that all accused are now under the custody of the arresting CIDG-NCR units pending their posting of the required bail.
