TWO motorcycle thieves were killed by policemen after they engaged the lawmen in a shootout in separate shooting incidents Thursday evening and yesterday before dawn in Caloocan City.
Caloocan City acting chief of police Col. Noel Flores said elements of Police Community Precinct (PCP) 4 were conducting police checkpoint at around 10:40 p.m. on Phase 12, in Bgy. 188, Tala, when they ordered a man who was driving a motorcycle without helmet, to pullover.
However, the suspect ignored the cops and instead turned right to Sta. Rita Street, prompting lawmen to chase him until he lost control of his motorcycle and fell down.
Instead of surrendering, the suspect drew a firearm and fired at approaching lawmen prompting the enforcers to retaliate and hit him in the body. He was rushed to Tala Hospital where he was pronounced dead-on arrival.
At around 1:20 a.m. yesterday, while joint elements of Station Special Operation Unit (SSOU) and Anti Carnapping Unit (ANCAR) were conducting simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operation (SACLEO) on Phase 12 Bgy. 188 Tala, they spotted a man driving a motorcycle similar to the one owned by a service crew which was reported stolen Wednesday evening on Dagat-Dagatan Avenue.
Policemen chased the suspect but upon reaching Duhat Street, in. Bgy. 179 Amparo, the suspect drew his firearm and repeatedly fired shots towards the pursuing cops. A brief shootout ensued until the suspect was hit and died on the spot.
The slain suspect was positively identified by the victim as the one who forcibly took his motorcycle at gunpoint. The stolen motorcycle was recovered.
