MPD nabs BI fixer in entrapment

September 19, 2018

THE Manila Police District (MPD) arrested an alleged fixer at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) during an entrapment operation in Manila the other day.

Policemen led by Senior Insp. Henry Navarro, chief of the MPD-General Assignment and Investigation Section (MPD-GAIS), identified the suspect as Alexander Kiat, of Masangkay Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila.  He was nabbed right after receiving an envelope containing P10,000 and P500,000 in paper money, inside a coffee shop on Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Prior to the entrapment operation,  complainants Jha Prashant, 26, a Nepalese doctor working at the MCU Hospital, and Francis Sandeep Kumar, 33, an Indian national, sought assistance from the MPD after the suspect allegedly duped them of P985,000 supposedly in exchange for the swift processing of the student visa of Sandeep.

The victims said they believed that the suspect had connections with the BI after he introduced them to two men whom he claimed to be BI officials.

However, after getting their money, the suspect disappeared and even blocked the victims off his social media account.

On September 16, the victims’ Filipina friend, Amethyst Jimenez, managed to contact Kiat and sought help for the enrolment and student visa of her alien cousin at the Pampanga University, in exchange for P500,000.

The entrapment operation thus took place at the agreed time and venue, resulting in the arrest of the suspect, who is now facing charges of attempted estafa, falsification of documents and violation of RA 9485 or Red Tape Law.
