STARTING tomorrow November 1, the regular minimum fare for jeepneys in Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog is P10.
This was confirmed yesterday by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) after it junked an appeal to suspend the fare hike in affected areas.
“It is apparent that the issues raised therein had already been passed upon by the Board in resolving the instant petition for fare increase,” the Board said.
A commuter group earlier asked the LTFRB to defer the fare increase since jeepney and bus drivers were earning more than the minimum wage compared to many commuters.
The LTFRB approved the P1 provisional fare increase on the current P9 minimum fare on public utility jeepneys. The ordinary provincial bus fare is now P13 while fare on ordinary buses plying Metro Manila is now P11.
The Board said they approved the fare hike due to rising fuel costs and the effect of TRAIN law on prices on basic and prime commodities.
