Newly-hired helpers nabbed for robbing employer

TWO house helpers who were  hired by their employers only last month were arrested by San Juan Police after they carted away around P1.5 million in cash and assorted jewelry from their employer.

San Juan Police chief Col. Ariel Fulo identified the suspects as Lourdes De Asis, alias ‘Lulu’, 49, and Analyn Escari, alias ‘Inday’, 20, both stay-in helpers at No.105 Kennedy St., North Greenhills, in Bgy. Greenhills, San Juan City.

Fulo said the suspects’ employer Victoria Marzan, 58, filed a complaint against them after she discovered on May 18 that her cash and assorted jewelry worth P1.5 million placed in her safety vault were missing.

Marzan said she hired the suspects only last month after De Asis’ relative Meriam De Asis Ropaning recommended them to her. However, the suspects suddenly stopped working and left her on May 16.

Police said Marzan immediately contacted Ropaning and told the incident who agreed to bring to her the suspects at the Greenhills, unknown to them that members of the San Juan City Police Community Precint (PCP-1) were already positioned in the area to arrest them.

The suspects were nabbed at a fast food chain but restaurant. They denied stealing the victim’s cash and jewelries.

The two suspects are now detained at San Juan City Police Custodial facility and charged with qualified theft.
