CALOOCAN City Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan yesterday reminded residents to take the needed precautions and discipline at home in order to lessen the incident of fire during the observance of Fire Prevention Month.
“Ang buwan ng Marso ay itinuturing na Fire Prevention Month. Dahil dito, nakikiisa ang Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Caloocan sa Bureau of Fire Protection sa pagpapaalala sa publiko ng ibayong pag-iingat upang makaiwas tayong lahat sa sunog,” Mayor Oca said.
Mayor Oca said that based on the report released by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), an increase in the number of fires from January 1 to December 11 last year reached 16,382 which is higher compared to 15,848 in the same period on 2018.
The number of civilians who died in fires also rose by nine percent to 326 persons while four BFP personnel also died while on duty.
The BFP also mentioned faulty electrical connections as the leading causes of fires followed by lighted cigarette butts and appliances and other electrical equipment which were left unplugged.
