HOME visitations to needy elders, monthly birthday socializations and employment as Senior Patrollers are just some of the programs Mayor AntolinOreta III is pursuing to promote their general well-being and offer best care possible for the elderly in Malabon.
Under the leadership of Oreta, the city government continues to upgrade its services for Malabonian senior citizens, numbering to 39,747 (as of Dec. 2018) throughout the 21 barangays of the locality.
The enactment of City Ordinance No. 07-2018 or the Special Benefits for Senior Citizens Ordinance sponsored by Coun. Lorenzo Oreta last year augmented the privileges previously guaranteed under RA 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.
Included in these were birthday gift giving, free movie passes in cinemas, free parking and employment opportunities.
Realizing the ordinance, Mayor Oreta conducts routine home visitation to indigent and bed-ridden elders of the city, working out their medical and health needs.
In at least twice a week, the mayor visits 20 or more indigent or ailing Malabonian senior citizens, personally delivering more than gift packages, fresh leash of hope that their needs are facilitated and addressed by the city government.
Festive monthly gatherings are likewise observed to acknowledge the birthdays of elders. These seemingly routine freebies-filled-up happenings are even spiced up with momentous side events.
During one birthday socialization, senior celebrants Charito Ignacio (Tonsuya), Consuelo Gil (Acacia) and Brenda Bernas (Potrero), won a group dine-in treat at Benny’s Grill with City Councilors Lorenzo Oreta, Peng Mañalac and Pamilyang Malabonian teammate Mark Roque through a Dating Game held.
