Paranaque delivers P1K gift checks each to 58K elderly citizens

April 22, 2020

TO cushion the impact of COVID-19 quarantine, Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez tapped a local courier to deliver P1000 gift checks to more than 58,000 senior citizens in 16 barangays.

Mayor Olivarez said the gift checks will be delivered via Air21 to the recipients’ home presently enrolled in the city’s Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) program to ensure only legitimate and qualified residents receive the food voucher.

Records showed that there are 58,429 seniors enrolled in OSCA Cares from the city’s 16 barangays. It was learned several senior citizens were not able to avail cash assistance under the social amelioration program of the government.

Olivarez said the GC may be used to purchase grocery and supermarket items from any SM outlet by the seniors themselves or by anyone they trust.

He said this is part of the city’s continuing relief operations to ensure the well-being of residents especially the elderly who are most vulnerable and equally helpless during the quarantine period.
