INTENSIFYING their effort to account for loose firearms in Metro Manila, agents of the National Capital Region Police Office on Wednesday arrested a Pasay City businessman for illegal possession of weapons, ammunition and a grenade, NCRPO chief, Director Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar announced yesterday.

The official identified the arrested suspect as Romeo Madaje, a 55-year old resident of No. 2944 FB Harrison Street corner Ortigas St. in Barangay 177, Pasay City.

He said members of the NCRPO Regional Special Operations Unit under Superintendent Rogarth Campo raided the suspect’s residence on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and RA 9516 or illegal possession of explosives issued by Pasay City Judge Divina Gracia Pelino.

Eleazar said that Madaje was arrested after his men recovered one Glock 19 9mm pistol with two magazines containing 36 live ammunition, one Colt MKIV Series 80 cal. .45 pistol with six bullets, six cal. .380 ammunition and a grenade during the raid.

Madaje and the confiscated guns and ammunition were taken to the NCRPO-RSOU headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City while the grenade was turned over to the Pasay City Police Station SWAT/Explosives and Ordnance Disposal Division for proper disposition.

Eleazar said that he has ordered his men to further intensify their conduct of the Philippine National Police Oplan: Katok and other anti-criminality operations to account for loose firearms and gunrunners as part of their effort to keep peace and order during the forthcoming 2019 mid-term election.

“Ito kasi papalapit na yung ating eleksyon kaya pinaigting natin ang ating campaign against loose firearms, kaya nga meron tayong Oplan Katok na ang ating mga kapulisan ay umiikot para puntahan yung mga may-ari ng expired na licensed na mga baril para i-surrender nila at matulungan silang magrenew ng mga expired na lisensya ng baril, “ Eleazar said.
