AN active police officer allegedly involved in selling illegal drugs was killed when he tried to shoot it out with the pursuing lawmen in a buy-bust operation Monday night in Caloocan City.
PO3 Ernesto Estrellas Jr., assigned at the District Special Operation Unit (DSOU) of Northern Police District (NPD), succumbed to bullet wounds in the body while being rushed to Caloocan City Medical Center.
A report reaching the office of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Guillermo Eleazar said that at around 8 p.m., joint elements of Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) and District Intelligence Division (DID) of NPD conducted a buy-bust operation against PO3 Estrellas after an undercover cop was able to transact a pack of shabu from the suspect.
However, when PO3 Estrellas sensed that he was dealing with a police decoy, he immediately boarded his Yamaha Aerox motorcycle and sped away, prompting combined elements of CITF and DID, who were in a safe distant, to chase him.
Estrellas was cornered along Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, Bgy. 14 but instead of surrendering, he pulled out his service firearm and fired at the pursuing lawmen, who returned fire, hitting the suspect in the body.
Elements of NPD Scene of the Crime Operatives led by Chief Insp. Avelino Andaya recovered from the slain policeman three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing undetermined quantity of shabu and a caliber .9mm Glock firearm with magazine loaded with 11 live ammunition.
