Robbery-holdup suspect killed in Pasay encounter

ONE of two robbery holdup suspects was killed in an encounter with responding policemen Monday evening in Pasay City.

Pasay police head of Station Investigation and Detective Management Branch (SIDMB) P/Capt. Allan Valdez said the suspect, identified as Alberto Soriano, 46 was rushed to Pasay City General Hospital where he succumbed to bullet wounds in the body while undergoing treatment his unidentified cohort managed to escape on board a motorcycle without license plate.

Report received by city police chief P/Col. Erickson Dilag showed that while Roceselyn Jobelo, 33, service crew and resident of 1767 Taft Avenue, Brgy. 33 was walking on her way home at around 8:30 p.m., the suspects, on board a motorcycle blocked her path along Menlo Street, a few meters away from Taft Avenue.

The back rider alighted and at gunpoint, announced a holdup and forcibly took the mobile phone of the victim and asked for her jewelry and money while the driver of the motorcycle served as lookout.

The incident was witnessed by roving police mobile patrol who tried to approach the suspects but the driver of the motorcycle shouted and alerted his colleague.

Instead of surrendering, the suspect aimed his gun at the approaching police officers which prompted one of the lawmen to shoot him while the driver of the motorcycle immediately fled from the scene.

Police recovered from the area the mobile phone stolen from the victim and the firearm of unknown caliber used by the slain suspect.
