CALOOCAN City Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan and Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin led the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony during the 121st Independence Day celebration yesterday at the Bonifacio Monument Circle in Caloocan City.
With the theme, “Kalayaan 2019: Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit sa Mamamayan,” Mayor Oca encouraged public servants to serve with courage and concern for the country and for the Filipinos.
“Here in Caloocan, the city government is doing its best to give better programs and projects for the welfare of the residents. Yet, we still need your cooperation because even ordinary citizens have big role for our development,” he said.
Mayor Oca also emphasized that most of their projects aim to end poverty, fight illegal drugs, and prevent crimes.
Meanwhile, guest speaker Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin stressed during his speech the importance of heroism and unity for a country’s progress.
“Manatili sanang buhay ang kabayanihan at tapang sa lahat ng henerasyon. Huwag nating waldasin ang pagkakataong umunlad dahil lang sa mga di pagkakaunawaan,” he said.
Also present during the ceremony was Ms. Veronica Dado of the National Commission for Culture and Arts.
