A seaman was killed by men on board a sports utility vehicle (SUV) who shot him in the head in Sampaloc, Manila the other day.
Victim Whelmark Suaverdez, 27, said to be also a businessman residing in Barangay Lubayot, Real, Quezon, died while being treated at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
The suspect, who was reportedly wearing a black jacket and a bullcap, escaped after the incident on board a black Toyota Fortuner with plate number XCS-108.
A report from the Manila Police District-Crimes Against Persons Investigation Section (MPD-CAPIS) said that the incident took place at 11:50 p.m. near the corner of Don Quijote and Laon-Laan Streets in Sampaloc.
Before the shooting, the victim was said to have arrived in the area with his half-brother and other companions, aboard a passenger jeep.
They were about to deliver some flowers when the suspect arrived, shot the victim in the head at close range, boarded his SUV and then sped away.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Authorities are investigating the incident to establish the identity of the suspect and the motive behind the killing.
