THE body of a female foreigner was found inside a garbage bag placed inside a huge carton box and dumped in the Pasig River at the Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila.
Manila Police District (MPD) Director Supt. Vicente Danao, Jr. identified the victim through an identification card found on her as Tomi Michelle Masters, a US citizen, 23, from Indiana, USA, billeted before her death at Room 11, 4th floor of a condominium building in Mandaluyong City.
Prior to the discovery of the body, police said a Grab driver reported to the Manila Police District-Station 5 that two male foreigners who rode his cab threw a big carton box into the Pasig River at the Baseco Compound in Port Area, at around 2 a.m.
The driver, whose name is being withheld in the meantime, told the police that the two booked for a cab from the condominium and asked to be taken to Robinson’s Place in Manila.
In Manila, the two asked the driver to pass by the Baseco area first. Once there, they threw the box into the water and then directed the driver to proceed to their destination.
The suspicious driver reported the matter to the MPD-Station 5. Based on the information, the police went to Baseco and retrieved the box carrying the woman’s body.
A follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of one of the suspects who turned out to be the victim’s boyfriend, who had returned to the woman’s condo unit.
The suspect’s name is being withheld pending the outcome of the investigation while the other suspect remains scot-free.
The arrested suspect remains in the custody of the MPD-Station 5. The US Embassy has been informed of the crime.
