SMOKING in public places remains the highest in Quezon City.
Figures released by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) showed smokers still continue to defy the law against “indiscriminate” smoking with 605 apprehended and processed in different police stations from February 9 – 16.
The figure is much bigger than drinking in public places with only 42 violators.
A total of 19 were caught roaming half-naked while nine for urinating in prohibited areas.
QCPD has rounded up a total of 3,780 violators that also include several petty crimes like jaywalking and other traffic mess-ups during the week-long campaign.
Observers said that the crackdown against drinking in public places had tremendously dropped compared to smoking and violations of city ordinance.
Cops have been seriously conducting operations against street drinkers especially after President Duterte prohibited men in uniform drinking publicly and in night clubs and beer houses.
Last month, President Duterte ordered all police and military personnel to stay away from drinking in bars citing several instances when they themselves fight when they got drunk.
“Yung Armed Forces of the Philippines at mga police all over the Philippines, you do not enter drinking places. Ang police at ang Army, nag-aagawan ng baril,” Duterte said during the Barangay Officials Summit on Peace and Order held at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
