AFTER hours of drinking during New Year’s eve festivities, a 27-year-old man bludgeoned to death his father with a steel pipe Tuesday evening in Caloocan City.
Lito Magbanua, 54, widower was rushed by his daughter Rhona Mae to Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival due to massive head and body injuries while his eldest son Rhenzie, jobless, was arrested by responding barangay watchmen after the incident.
Caloocan police homicide investigators SPO1 Junedy Narsica and PO3 Jenny Ryan Rodriguez said the incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. inside the victim’s abode in Sitio 2 San Vicente Ferrer, Brgy. 178 Camarin.
Investigation showed that while the victim was sleeping in the living room of their house, his son who was already under the influence of liquor barged inside, took a piece of steel pipe and for unknown reason repeatedly hit his father in the head and body while uttering a word “Pu—ina mo, dapat kagabi pa kita papatayin”.
Victim’s youngest daughter Rhona Mae who was at the second floor of the house immediately went down upon hearing the commotion and witnessed how her brother continuously smashed the head of his already bloodied father with a steel pipe before repeatedly punching him in the head and body.
Rhona Mae immediately sought the help of barangay watchmen that resulted in the arrest of the suspect. He was later turned over by barangay watchmen to the police along with a blood stained steel pipe for proper disposition.
Caloocan police deputy chief for administration Supt. Ferdinand Del Rosario said the suspect will be charged for parricide before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office while the motive behind the killing is yet to be determined.
