Taguig City cop nabbed over illegal drugs, gun trafficking

COMBINED agents of the Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group and the Southern Police District on Thursday night arrested a Taguig City policeman in whose house  illegal drugs and an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were found.

Members of the PNP-IMEG under Colonel Romeo M. Caramat Jr. and the SPD headed by Brigadier General Eliseo DC Cruz jointly raided the house of Staff Sergeant Nestor Santos Jr. at No. 375 Manuel L. Quezon Street in Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig City, at around 8:55 p.m. on the strength of a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms and drugs issued by Judge Leili Cruz Suarez of the Taguig City Regional Trial Court Branch 163.

Cruz ordered the immediate relief from the Taguig City Police Station of Staff Sgt. Cruz following his arrest.

Santos was a mobile patrol car driver assigned at the Taguig City Police-Community Precinct 2.

Caramat said they placed Santos under surveillance amid reports of  his involvement in illegal drug activities relayed to the PNP-IMEG by a concerned citizen.

Undercover PNP-IMEG operatives who validated the derogatory report against Santos confirmed the information that apart from selling illegal drugs, Santos was also involved in the illegal trafficking of high-powered firearms and unregistered motorcycles which were believed to have been stolen or were recovered in police operations.

Caramat said the suspect will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.
