AT least 34 persons were reporedly injured after a trailer truck and a passenger bus collided the other night at the corner of San Marcelino and Remedios Streets in Malate, Manila.
The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) said those injured were brought either to the Ospital ng Maynila, Philippine General Hospital or the Manila Doctors Hospital.
Nelson E Natividad, team leader of the Red Cross-Manila Chapter, said the victims, mostly passengers, sustained minor injuries.
A probe by the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) said that the Kersteen Joyce transport bus driven by Joseph Mojica bearing body number 6888 and plate number DXG-860 was on its way to Cavite from Lawton when its rear portion was hit by a trailer truck with plate number DUD-688 and driven by Noli Mendoza, causing the said truck to turn on its side.
The bus was said to have come from the eastbound lane and was about to cross along San Marcelino Street when it was hit from behind by the said trailer truck coming from the southbound lane.
The drivers of the bus and the truck were brought in for investigation by the police.
The Manila Police District -Station 5 said the incident took place at around 9:45 p.m. and caused heavy traffic in the area, which was cleared of debris at 1 a.m. already.
