A TRUCK driver landed behind bars after attempting to bribe policemen who accosted him and his helper while driving in a police checkpoint yesterday before dawn in Valenzuela City.
Roldan Otadoy, 36, of Unit 33, Temporary Housing Building 12, Vitas, Tondo, Manila and his helper Roderick Bunso were on board an Isuzu Elf truck (UKS-430) when they were flagged down in a checkpoint at the corner of Gov. I. Santiago and Daffodil Streets, Bgy. Malinta at around 2 a.m.
P/SMSgt. Gilbert Soriano and P/Cpl. Boui Gamueda, both assigned at the Valenzuela Police Station Intelligence Branch (SIB), explained to Otadoy and to his helper that they violated City Ordinance 670 imposing restriction on unnecessary travel after learning that the load of their truck were 80 sacks of charcoal and not essential goods.
When policemen issued an Ordinance Violation Receipt (OVR) to the driver and his helper, Otadoy pulled out a P500 bill from his license jacket and tried to bribe the lawmen by uttering a word “ Ayusin na lang natin ito, eto, P500, pang meryenda niyo,” prompting the police to place him under arrest and confiscated from him the bribe money.
