Uncle hits nephew’s head with sledgehammer

A FIVE-year-old child is in critical condition after his uncle who had a history of mental disorder struck him the head with a sledgehammer Sunday morning in Navotas City.

Navotas police chief Col. Rolando Balasabas said Mark Lean Manzon Moralez, is still in critical condition at the Jose Reyes Memorial and Medical Center where he underwent surgical operation.

Col. Balasabas said the incident happened in the house of the Moralez family at Pabahay in Bgy. Tanza 2, while the victim was playing a mobile game at around 6:40 a.m.

The victim’s uncle Joseph Moralez, 28, a construction worker, who was also in the house,  for no apparent reason approached the victim and hit him on the head with a sledgehammer causing him to lose consciousness.

After the incident, the suspect immediately escaped but he was later arrested in the afternoon.

The victim’s mother Marissa Monique said her brother-in-law who was living with them had a history of mental disorder.
