A UTILITY vehicle (UV Express) driver was killed in an ambush perpetrated by riding-in-tandem criminals Thursday night in Caloocan City.

Rogelio Obando, Jr., 44, of Little Baguio, Miramonte Heights, Bgy. 180, was rushed to Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to bullet wounds in the body at around 11:38 p.m. while undergoing medical treatment.

A witness who was one of the passengers of Obando, told police he alighted from the vehicle along Purificacion F. Dela Peña Avenue in Miramonte Heights at around 9:40 p.m. when one of the suspects approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and shot the victim repeatedly.

After the killing, the gunman, wearing jacket with hood immediately boarded an orange Mio type scooter driven by his cohort who was wearing T-shirt and sped away.

The witness said the victim, though wounded, was able to alight from his driven vehicle to seek help which prompted concerned residents in the area to bring him to the nearest hospital

Police recovered from the crime scene five empty shells for caliber .45 pistol which will be submitted to PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.

Caloocan police chief Sr. Supt. Restituto Arcanghel ordered a thorough investigation to determine the motive behind the killing while a follow-up operation was still being conducted for possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
