Valenzuela traffic aide arrested for extortion

June 03, 2019

A local traffic aide was arrested after he demanded money from barangay watchman he earlier flagged down for driving a tricycle along Mac Arthur Highway Sunday evening in Valenzuela City.

Alejandro Tolentino, 37, Traffic Aide 1 of Valenzuela City was nabbed by his superior following a complaint by Jimmy Villamor, 51 of 2819 Pilapil St., Pasay City who was flagged down by suspect at around 8:45 p.m. and confiscated his driver’s license after accusing him of violating city ordinance for driving a tricycle along the highway

However, instead of issuing Ordinance Violation Receipt, (OVR), Tolentino ordered the victim to produce P800 in exchange for the return of his driver’s license.

After a few minutes, Villamor handed the money to Tolentino, not knowing that his superior, Traffic Aide 4 Edgardo Ladao in civilian clothes tasked to monitor unscrupulous traffic enforcers was observing their transaction.

Ladao immediately accosted Tolentino after Villamor attested that the suspect demanded money from him in exchange for the return of his driver’s license.

Charges for robbery extortion will be filed by police against the arrested suspect before the Valenzuela City Prosecutor’s Office.
