NEWcomer and a returnee will bid for the mayoralty seat in the city of Pasig in the 2019 mid-term elections.
Pasig City Councilor Vico Sotto filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) yesterday afternoon before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the city.
Vico, 29, was accompanied by his parents, top comedian and Eat Bulaga host Vic Sotto and former actress Connie Reyes in filing his CoC with former Congressman Roman Romulo, who is also returning as a representative bet for the lone district of Pasig City.
The two are running under the Aksyon Demokratiko party.
Vico, the youngest city councilor, is expected to face the city’s incumbent Mayor Robert “Bobby’” Eusebio.
The Eusebio family has dominated Pasig City politics for two decades, starting with Robert’s father, Vicente, who served as mayor from 1992 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2007, and his mother the late Soledad, who held the post from 2001 to 2004.
Robert’s wife Maribel, also became the mayor of the city.
Vico said he is seeking higher office as he wanted changes in the city.
In San Juan, former Vice Mayor Francis Zamora also filed his CoC with the Comelec for mayor. He was with his father, Congresman Ronnie Zamora, who is also seeking his last term as representative of city’s lone district.
Zamora, went against Mayor Guia Gomez, former partner of former President and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, in the 2016 mayoral elections. Gomez was declared winner after garnering 28,828 votes against Zamora’s 27,604 votes.
