A WANTED member of the Abu Sayyaf who fled to Metro Manila to work as a security guard was arrested in Muntinlupa by agents of the Philippine National Police on Wednesday, Philippine National Police spokesman Colonel Bernard M. Banac said yesterday.
Aldemar Murih Saiyari was arrested on the strength of a warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 162.
Banac said the suspect was working as security guard with a fake license from the PNP Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA) when he was arrested in Muntinlupa City.
The suspect’s fake SOSIA identification guard which will expire on May 11, 2020 listed his address at Block 34, Lot 10, Soldiers Village, Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa City.
Banac said Saiyari was one of the suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits who, in April 2000, seized 21 tourists from the dive resort island off Sipadan, Malaysia, and brought the victims to Sulu where they were held hostage
After the incident, Saiyari went into hiding and was hired by the Blue Panthers Security Agency. The agency was found to be already operating illegally since its License to Operate had expired in 2014 and was previously ordered by the PNP Civil Security Group to cease to operate in 2016 due to its failure to renew its expired license.
Following the ban on the employment of security details imposed by the Commission on Elections last January 13, the PNP-CSG headed by Major General Reynaldo G. Biay and the PNP-SOSIA under Brigadier General Noli Romana have started visiting their regional field offices in order to closely monitor the strict compliance of private security agencies with the rules and regulations issued by Comelec.
