A WOMAN died and scores were injured in a fire that broke out in separate places Saturday in Metro Manila.
The charred body of an unidentified woman was discovered in the rubble of a burnt house in Bgy. Sto Rosario-Kaunlaran in Pateros. The fire of still undetermined origin struck at No. 82 M. Lozada St. in Bgy. Sto Rosario, at around 11:45 a.m.
Pateros Fire Safety Enforcement Section head Insp. Demetrio Sablan, Jr. said the residents rescued Alfredo Magloto, 73, who was nearly burned to death when the fire engulfed his house while Mike Angelo Poncio, 23, sustained second degree burns in the body. Twenty houses were destroyed displacing around 30 families.
Arson investigators are still verifying information if the charred body of a woman was Magloto’s wife Lolita who was still missing as of press time.
In Bgy. 184 at Maricaban, Pasay City, 11 houses were also destroyed by fire that struck the house of Florencia Dominguez past 2 p.m.
Dominguez told arson investigator that she went outside to buy food for her grandson. When she returned, she saw their electric fan already in flames.
No one was reported killed but a man was injured while trying to save his motorcycle from their burning house.
In Tondo, Manila, a drug addict identified as Aldrine Manansala, 22, of No. 725 Launasa St., Tondo, Manila, was mauled for allegedly leaving unattended a lit candle causing a fire in their neighborhood.
At least 150 families were left homeless in a fire that took place at around 8:30 p.m.
Among those wounded in the Tondo fire were Nenita Lardizabal, 64; Gerald Brown, 38; Imee Perayre, 20; Liezel Mislos, 42; Manuel Corpuz, 64, and several others who remain unidentified.
