POLICE arrested a 23-year-old woman responsible for the escape of a man who earlier engaged lawmen in a shootout Friday evening in Caloocan city.

Caloocan police deputy chief for administration Lt. Col. Ilustre Mendoza said Bernadette Sy of 2056 Santan St. Area A, Bgy. 175, Camarin will be charged for Obstruction of Justice for allowing his stepfather Edwin Hernandez to escape following a wild chase against him conducted by police.

Investigation showed that at around 10:15 p.m., elements of Caloocan Police Community Precinct (PCP) 5 was about to arrest Hernandez who was facing charges for Grave Threat when the latter allegedly fired towards lawmen before running towards the house of his step-daughter.

Policemen led by Cpl. Allan Bryant Rey and Cpl. Abraham Ramirez of PCP-5 immediately gave chase but Dy, instead of allowing the cops to enter her house in a hot pursuit operation, immediately locked the door and allowed her step-father to escape.

Dy only unlocked the main door of her house after she was certain that her step-father had already escaped prompting the policemen to place her under arrest.
