AN employee of Lazada Online Shopping was mistaken for a thief and shot dead by a security guard yesterday morning in Muntinlupa City.

Edmund Bautista, died on the spot from bullet wounds in the body while the guard, identified as Ryan Rodriguez.

Southern Police District (SPD) Public Information Office head Supt. Jenny Tecson said the incident occurred at around 5 a.m. inside the construction site of Macro Asia in Bgy. Sucat.

Bautista allegedly managed to enter the compound by climbing up the concrete wall but was spotted by Rodriguez, who was on duty.

Police said the guard immediately grabbed his service shotgun and fired at Bautista who was killed instantly.    Construction workers in the area told police that since burglaries happened often times occur at the construction site, the duty guard probably mistook the victim for a thief.

The victim’s father Edgardo Bautista, who rushed to the crime scene, denied that his son was a thief and wondered how his son managed to climb up the high concrete wall to enter the construction site.

Muntinlupa police chief Senior Supt. Gerardo Umayao ordered a thorough investigation on the case while a manhunt operation was launched for the arrest of Rodriguez.
