2 House members also call for PhilHealth probe

TWO lawmakers expressed disappointment over allegations of corruption in the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

CIBAC party-list Reps. Bro. Eddie Villanueva and Domeng Rivera said this issue must be seriously addressed by the administration through proper action and not just investigation.

The alleged corruption issue led to the resignation of some PhilHealth officials.

“The recent resignation and crying foul of some PhilHealth officials over widespread corruption in the state health insurer is very abominable now especially during this pandemic that the government is channeling hefty hundreds of billions of funds to this agency,” the solons said.

“ It is very disgusting that unabated corruption in PhilHealth is continuously plundering not only government funds but also its members’ contribution during this state of health emergency. It’s a sin not to take serious actions to address this issue,” they added.

The two solons plan to file a resolution calling for congressional investigation into the charges of systemic corruption in PhilHealth.

“We must let the ax fall on whom it must so that people will not be robbed of the services and funds they deserve,” they said.

Reports said that some officials of PhilHealth resigned after a heated argument in a zoom meeting where alleged corrupt practices in the agency were revealed.

One of those who resigned is Atty. Thorrsson Montes Keith, who is PhilHealth anti-fraud legal officer.
