Abby ‘mobbed’

MAKATI Mayor Abby Binay on Friday led the proclamation rally for the whole slate of her administration’s Team Performance running under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), at the stretch of Lawton Avenue from Kalayaan Avenue to J.P. Rizal Extension in Bgy. Northside, Makati City.

Former Vice President Jejomar Binay, congressional candidate for District 1 under Mayor Abby’s ticket, attended the rally together with re-electionist Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo, re-electionist Congressman Luis Campos for District 2, and all 16 candidates for City Councilor in both districts of Makati.

Speaking before some 25,000 supporters from the city’s 33 barangays, the elder Binay, chairman of UNA, formally presented Mayor Abby as UNA’s official mayoral candidate and exhorted her exemplary leadership which merited another term in office.

Saying it was a great honor to introduce his daughter who will again be “the next mayor of Makati”, Binay described Mayor Abby’s election in 2016 as providential for the people of Makati.

“Alam po ninyo, ang laking pagpapala, pinagpala po tayo ng Panginoon dahil siya po ang nahalal noong 2016. Kung hindi, ay hindi matutuloy yung tamang pamamahala,” Binay said.

The UNA chair said he was proud of how Mayor Abby had effectively led the turnaround of the dismal state of public service in Makati under her predecessor, former acting mayor Kid Peña, citing the deterioration of services at the Ospital ng Makati due to neglect and incompetence.

In her proclamation speech, Mayor Abby said she has kept her promise to the people of Makati in 2016 when she assured them that she will not only continue, but further enhance her father’s legacy of trusted public service with her own innovations.

The mayor said her ticket was aptly named Team Performance because from day one, her administration has been firmly anchored on performance.

“Mahalaga sa akin ang performance – dahil ito ang sandigan ng isang mabuting administrasyon. Naniniwala ako sa performance – dahil ito ang susi sa isang Makati na maipagmamalaki ninyo,” Mayor Abby declared.

The mayor said she wanted everyone to be proud of being Makatizens, and envisioned Makati standing tall as neighboring cities strive to emulate it, recognizing that “Iba talaga, kapag taga-Makati ka.”

The UNA mayoral bet summed up the main thrusts of her Team Performance, namely, “Malinis na Pamamalakad” (Clean Governance), Marangal na Pamumuno (Leadership with Integrity), and Maipagmamalaking Siyudad (A highly-esteemed City).

Mayor Abby revealed new initiatives that her team will undertake to build on their initial achievements and further enhance public services for the people of Makati.

First is the provision of hospice care to the elderly and infirm who have difficulty in going to the city-run Ospital ng Makati or the barangay health centers. The mayor said the city government will send qualified health experts to the homes of residents in need of hospice care to provide them with proper intervention and palliative care. Family members will also be trained on the proper way of caring for their ailing relative at home.

The mayor said her administration will also prioritize the establishment of Urgent Care in the city’s barangay health centers, in addition to primary health care services they provide. She said the added service is aimed to provided immediate relief to patients in need of urgent medical attention, thus helping to allay their fears and anxiety.
