Albayalde congratulates new senator ‘Bato’

PHILIPPINE National Police chief Director General Oscar D. Albayalde yesterday congratulated his predecessor and classmate from Philippine Military Academy ‘Sinagtala’ Class of 1986, Gen. Ronald ‘Bato’ M. dela Rosa for winning a Senate seat in last Monday’s election.

“As an individual and a classmate, I would like to congratulate Sen. Bato. I think he deserves it,” the PNP chief told the Journal Group.

Sen. dela Rosa made history when he became the 2nd ex-PNP chief to become a senator of the Republic after Sen. Panfilo ‘Ping’ M. Lacson of PMA Class 1971. As of press time, dela Rosa remained in the Top 5 of the senatorial candidates with more than 18 million votes.

However, Gen. Albayalde made it clear he has no intention of seeking any elective post once he retires from the service this coming November 8.

“I have no political ambition,” he declared. According to the PNP chief, it will be up for President Duterte to give him any position in the government upon his retirement.

Gen. Albayalde also commended his officers and men who remained apolitical since the start of the election period. “A very good example is the Director, CIDG,” he said in referring to his mistah, Major General Amador V. Corpus whose wife sought an Abra congressional seat but lost.

“Never did he (Corpus) meddle with his wife’s candidacy,” he said. Gen. Albayalde joked that because of that, Corpus is the one being blamed by his wife for her election defeat.

Journal Group sources said that Corpus completely stayed out of Abra before and during the election to show to all and sundry that he is not around to convince voters to throw their support behind his wife or harass her rivals.
