PHILIPPINE National Police chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde yesterday ordered a manhunt for former Police Colonel Eduardo Acierto and seven others who were allegedly involved in smuggling shabu concealed inside magnetic lifters last year.

Albayalde said the PNP yesterday received a copy of the warrant of arrest against Acierto so he immediately ordered the manhunt operation against those involved.

“Yesterday, we were able to secure the copies of the warrants of arrest, and we are now conducting manhunt operations,” Albayalde said.

“Sa ngayon lahat ng pwedeng puntahan pinupuntahan na namin. We have tracker teams created from the CIDG. Hindi lang sya pati yung mga ibang naisyuhan ng warrant of arrest,” he added.

For his part, PNP spokesperson Col. Bernard Banac said it will be the court which will decide where to detain the suspects.

“Once arrested, they will be brought to the court where the order emanated. It will be the court which will decide where they will be detained,” Banac said.

Aside from Acierto, Judge Ma. Bernardita Santos of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 35 issued arrest warrants against former Customs Intelligence Officer Jimmy Guban, former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Deputy Director for Administration Ismael Fajardo, Chan Yee Wah alias KC Chan, Zhou Quan alias Zhang Quan, consignees Vedasto Cabral Baraquel Jr., Maria Lagrimas Catipan, and Emily Luquingan.

Guban was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation last April 17. No bail was set for  his temporary liberty.
