PHILIPPINE National Police chief Director General Oscar D. Albayalde yesterday designated erstwhile PNP spokesman and chief of the PNP Public Information Office Chief Superintendent Benigno B. Durana Jr. as the new director for Police-Community Relations.
Durana, a member of Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988 replaced Director Eduardo Serapio M. Garado, a lawyer-member of PMA “Sandiwa” Class of 1985 who officially retired yesterday.
As the newest member of the PNP Directorial Staff, Durana will automatically be promoted to the rank of Police Director, a rank which is equivalent to a Major General in the Armed Forces.
A member of PMA ‘Tanglaw Diwa’ Class of 1992, Senior Supt. Bernard M. Banac will replace Durana as PNP spokesman and PIO chief.
With his position, Banac will become the first member of PMA Class 1992 to be a 1-star police general.
Albayalde added that Chief Supt. Rhodel O. Sermonia, the director of the Police-Community Relations Group requested that he be transferred to the PNP Personnel Holding and Administrative Unit.
The PNP chief said that Sermonia will be replaced by his deputy, Senior Supt. Bartolome R. Bustamante. Both Sarona and Bustamante are members of PMA “Makatao” Class of 1989.
Last week, Senior Supt. Samuel P. Rodriqueztook over as the new PNP Information Communications and Technology Service vice newly-retired Chief Supt. Renato C. Angara.
