GRATEFUL for his confirmation, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año vowed a strict and fair leadership as he promised to improve governance in local government units and promote public safety across the country.
Año expressed gratitude to the members of the Commission on Appointments (CA) for confirming him as head of the DILG.
“Ang pagkumpirma po sa akin ng CA ay hudyat na lalo ko pa pong pagbutihin ang pamumuno sa Kagawaran at tiyaking ang mga programa ng DILG ay nararamdaman at napapakinabangan ng mamamayan,” he said.
The DILG chief also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for his trust and confidence in his capability to lead the Department at the forefront of the unrelenting campaign against illegal drugs, criminality, corruption, and terrorism as well as advocating for a federal system of government.
The DILG is also part of the Manila Bay rehabilitation program and is continuing to oversee the recovery of Boracay Island together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Department of Tourism.
“I call on the entire DILG to work with me on the top priorities this year. We shall sustain the momentum in our public order and safety advocacies. Our anti-illegal drugs and anti-criminality campaigns will not only be intensified, but will be more focused and methodical,” he said.
At the same time, Año emphasized the need to enhance awareness and readiness in addressing the emerging threat of violent extremism.
“We shall double our efforts in ending the Communist insurgency in our country,” he said.
