PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will fire another government official next week, Malacañang said yesterday.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a radio interview that Duterte made the commitment during a meeting with businessmen on Wednesday.
Panelo did not elaborate.
The President also announced last week that he will remove more officials for corruption.
“Hinihintay ko lang ‘yung report nila. But sabi ko na, ‘You give me your report and if I find it justifiable, you can stay. Pero kung may corruption, I’m sorry,’” he said in a speech before beneficiaries of the government’s unconditional cash transfer program in Koronadal City, South Cotabato on March 26.
Duterte was elected in May 2016 on a campaign promise to rid the country of illegal drugs, criminality and corruption.
But critics called into question the apparent disregard for human rights especially in his war on drugs in which thousands have died and the sincerity of the anti-corruption campaign given the reappointment of officials he fired.
